1.3 billion dollars investment of China for subway development
Highlighting the development of urban public transport including metro and BRT needs central government support, the secretary of IUESA said: China invested about 1.3 billion dollars for the development of railroad transportation in Beijing and other major cities including Shanghai, Tianjin and Guangzhou in 2008.
Referring to the air pollution in the metropolises, Seyyed Mohsen Tabatabaei, the secretary of IUESA said: about 80 percent of air pollution is as the result of using private cars and it can be controlled extremely by developing public transport.
Noting that there is a direct relationship between urban transport dynamicity and level of cities’ development, he said: high urban mobility and the fluidity of urban traffic will result in the quality of urban life and citizenship satisfaction.
Saying that common concepts such as less-carbon cities, green and smart cities will lead to use non-motorized transport as well as public transport, he added: in Shanghai, China 26% and 23% of intercity trips in Tokyo is done by foot.
Emphasizing that using bicycles is another solution for transport dynamicity, he said: China is now becoming the Land of Cycling and the country has the highest use of bicycles in East Asia. For example, in Shanghai for every thousand people there are 550 bikes
