knowledge city is not an issue that is available as a model, but cities should measure their local conditions and be aware of their weaknesses and strengths to be in the path of global knowledge.

The concept of “knowledge city” has become popular in scientific and specialized meetings among urban policy-makers and it is considered as a potential solution for solving the problems of modern cities. The idea of knowledge city is very complex and presenting an exact definition id difficult as well. This difficulty is as a result of different attitudes economically, socially, and historically. However, this novel concept has considerable attraction for researchers and urban policy-makers particularly in knowledge management and knowledge-based development. The players of urban development consider it as a strategy to solve problems facing urban sustainability.

Knowledge city is an environment in which knowledge exists as a compact, continuous, and pioneer course. Enriched Knowledge varies and accumulates. It seems that post-industry societies of 21st century have targeted the horizon of knowledge city.

On one hand 21st century is dedicated to cities and specifies with the migration from villages to cities. This process continues from industry revolution. Urban population was less than 30 percent in 1980, but more than 50 percent is urbanized and it may reach to 75 percent by 2015. On the other hand, it is called knowledge century as well. After World War II in many industrialized countries, more than 50 percent of GDP comes from the way instead of axial thrust to knowledge has changed.

In the international arena, many organizations, including the United Nations, the Europe Union, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the World Bank each for their part, have pointed to the vital importance of the knowledge economy. They insist that man is the eve of the opening of a new civilization that is based on the value of knowledge. So in the knowledge-based global urbanization, an unprecedented fact in today’s world is complex.

In fact, creativity and knowledge stimulate the future of urban economy. Both in developed countries and in emerging economies, knowledge is a central place. So cities are looking to create the right conditions for the emergence of creativity and knowledge, to use it in a new culture of entrepreneurship.

Success or failure of a city depends on the responsiveness to social and economic changes. One creative city and knowledge-based or knowledge city is not something that is proposed as a model, accessible and available in everywhere, but it heavily is influenced by conditions and factors. Cities should assess their financial situation, to be aware of their strengths and weaknesses, and then placed in the path of the global flow of knowledge. Industry development, creativity and knowledge in each city are influenced by its features.

Knowledge cities are widely recognized as the services sector. The service sector consists of the largest sector of employment in large cities; for example, more than 90 percent of employment in London is in the service sector. Cities should assess their financial situation, to be aware of their strengths and weaknesses, and then placed in the path of the global flow of knowledge. Industry development, creativity and knowledge in each city are influenced by its features.
