Review on world experiences of smart city
Today, smartization of cities enjoys global image and different countries attempt to create smart city projects in order to contrast against urbanization issues and problems.
It is not related to a particular geography and it has instances in all areas whether developed and developing ones and it seems that using modern communicative and informative technologies would be one of the unique methods of organizing urbanized world of current era. In the following, some cities around the world will be mentioned that they carried out effective and considerable measures.
Seoul
Seoul the capital of South Korea is the biggest metropolis of this country with more than 10 million people population. Seoul has been turned into cosmopolitan having advanced economy and being one of the important tourism destination after the host of Olympic games, football world cup and holding G20 group in 2010. Seoul is also the best sample of technology-based in the world and it has had rank 1 of electronic government until 2003 up to now. 2015 smart Seoul program was announced in 2015. On the basis of this program Seoul acts as a global pioneer and leader in smart technology field. In 2012, the number of Korean people used smart services and devices were more than 25 million people which it means 50% of its population. It reaches to about 78% in Seoul.
Seoul has launched free Wi-Fi network in parks, squares and other public places such as subways and urban buses by absorbing private investment and it will complete by the end of 2015. Moreover, urban management offers free internet to all citizens referring to governmental sectors and offices. In 2012, Seoul began to distribute second hand smart devices among low-income groups and families and also in 2009; they held training courses for using ICT aimed to familiarize immigrants, elderly people, people with low revenues and other who used these devices for the first time and these classes attracted 47000 people during 2009 to 2011. It was only parts of measures that carried out in order to create smart Seoul and this metropolis is trying to use modern communicative and informative technologies.
Smart cities in India
It is estimated that India urban population will reach to 843 million people by 2050. To accommodate this densely population, Indian government is looking for presenting smart solutions to manage this collection, reduce costs, increase efficiency and improve quality life.
Indian government devotes 1.2 billion dollars of its 2014-2015 budgets to smartization of cities to create 100 smart city projects. These projects will lead to increase the employment 10 to 15%. Ministry of Urban Development has offered program of two smart cities for each of 29 states of India and development of industrial shaft of Delhi-Mumbai has been emphasized by creating seven smart cities and one industrial corridor to the 1500 km and among six states of this country and a 100 billion budget has been considered for this matter. Also, India government has offered its ambitious plan of 6 million electronic and hybrid automobiles product for 2020 by investing 4.13 million dollars.
Smart cities of Europe:
Copenhagen
Copenhagen is on the top of ranking related to smart and sustainable cities in the Europe regularly, expectedly and annually. More than 40% people of this city use bicycles. Green letter of credit of this city is popular at global level. On the basis of Siemens, this city ranks 1 of green city and smart environment. Copenhagen follows a bold project to access the first capital without carbon by 2050. Not only this city has all infrastructures of smart city, but also smart people with high human capital are of their qualities.
Stockholm
Stockholm is one of the other cities of the Scandinavian region. Its presence in top ranking of the smartest cities of the Europe is not accidental. In Stockholm, 68% of total trips within the city having less than 5 km are done on foot or by bicycle and 25% of trips are done by public transport. In this city, only 8% of trips within the cities are done by the private car. In the classification of 200 urban big economies accomplished by Brookings Institution in 2011, Stockholm was among 4 European cities where included 40 world top economies.
Amsterdam
Amsterdam is undisputed pioneer of the Europe and the world cities in the field of non-motorized transport. Almost 70% of total transfers in the level of this city is done on foot or by bicycle. Regarding the indicator of access to green and open space, 75% of citizens in Amsterdam the distances to green and open spaces are less than 300 meters.
Vienna
Vienna is slowly changing into the pioneer smart sustainable city in the Europe. Among 100 capitals in the world, Vienna is on the second rank of E-government. There are 168 available databases for public in this city and is one of the few cities acting people active participation protocol in the development of city. In the field of life quality and smart city Vienna is on top among 211 cities of the world on the basis of Classification of Mercer.
Smart cities in North America
Boston
Apart from an urban innovation system at the global level, Boston has the smartest people in the world. Boston is the headquarters of more than 70 universities and colleges. 8 of them are research universities and their annual cost is more than 1.5 billion dollars in the field of research and development. Projects in order to smartize the city are in progress. It can be referred to participatory urbanization projects, learning of the 21st century, and also a project entitled “Clicks and Bricks” is in progress, it is about how technologies can join together and make and manage a city.
San Francisco
San Francisco is a live city with high quality of life and a prosperous entrepreneurial and thriving economy. This city has been turned into an attractive destination for entrepreneurs of technology field. Aside from the top position in the world in terms of technology, this city is a Headquarter of numerous organizations hoping smart future for it. In the environment field, San Francisco ranked 1 among North America cities according to the indicators of green city of Siemens.
Vancouver
Vancouver does not obtain adequate reputation to change into the pioneer of smart cities in the world but it deserves the title and tries in this regard. Vancouver, among North America cities, is in the 2nd rank of green cities after San Francisco and along with it is among first 10 cities of North America. This city is trying to turn into the greenest city in the world in 2020. It has the highest life quality in North America according to Mercer. Low rate of crime and violence, good education, moderate climate and easy access to nature are some of its qualities. Vancouver has an information technology sector and advanced communication but it needs much time to change into a pioneer smart cities in the world.
