The necessity of developing large and local stores

According to Mehr News Agency, Seyyed Mohsen Tabatabaei added in the "Eight Mornings" program of Radio Eqtesad: The development of small and local businesses, as well as the expansion of large and chain stores, are both essential in the country. According to him, in a situation where more than 70 percent of the country's population is urban, economic models must move towards reducing costs.

Referring to the positive effects of the development of chain stores, Tabatabaei stated: Reducing travel costs, saving time, reducing traffic and urban pollutants are among the benefits of collective and large-scale shopping in these stores.

He added: The more people can purchase their basket of goods near their place of residence or work, the greater the impact on improving the quality of life and urban welfare. According to him, chain stores have been able to play an effective role in improving citizens' access to goods with their variety of goods, standardization of pricing, optimal hygiene, online sales and on-site delivery.

The Secretary General of the Iranian Urban Economics Scientific Association emphasized the need for changes in local business models, saying: Traditional supermarkets mainly attract their customers based on local relationships, even if the quality or price of their goods does not have a competitive advantage.

Tabatabaei emphasized: The growth of urbanization culture has changed consumption patterns, and the development of chain stores is inevitable in these conditions. However, these stores can also cause harm if they monopolize or distance themselves from local identity.

He concluded by emphasizing: The development of small and local stores alongside large and chain stores is essential, and small businesses must adapt to new economic conditions and the new needs of citizens.
