Referring to the last UN report about economic costs of global warming for developing countries, Seyyed Mohsen Tabatabaei, secretary of IUESA said human activities have changed the mechanism of the global atmosphere. One of them is global warming. For this purpose, many lectures, researches, and conferences have been assigned.

Saying that the fact is that the earth is getting warmer, he said the heat has been drawn on oceans in a way that the Arctic ice cap at 3 times more than what was predicted is disappearing, and it is reduced 2.7 percent each decade on average.

Emphasizing that all researches indicate global warming has been influenced by greenhouse gasses, he said as the world uses increasingly fossil fuels, concentration of greenhouse gases is increases and so does the average temperature of the Earth’s surface.

Reminding that global warming threatens life on the earth; he added a slight rise in temperature will be followed by prolonged droughts, facing agricultural products with a challenge, and damaging food chain and the ecosystem.

Saying about economic aspects of global warming on developing countries, he said statistics indicate that developing countries will suffer 75 percent of damages of climate change. 2 degrees warmer weather will be resulted in reducing 4 to 5 percent GDP in Africa and south Asia.

Cities are responsible for 75 percent of the world’s energy consumption, 80 percent of greenhouse gasses emission, and the main waste producers in the world, he said.

Emphasizing that city management can affect in energy consumption management and reducing pollutants, he said it is necessary that long-term plans of metropolises to be considered.
