The secretary of IUESA believes that these cities have become dormitories regarding the weaknesses of economic foundations in new cities.

Young journalist club: In Iran, according to the process of urbanization and special economic situations created in the periods of history, like other developing countries, urbanization has increased. For this purpose, urban professionals tried to create new cities in order to reduce current problems. There have been created 18 cities in the country. 14 cities have reached to the stage of population, but unfortunately, economic activities in new cities are considerable and it seems new cities have changed only to dormitories for their residents.

Establishment Project of these cities has not been successful and none of them has reached to the intended population horizons. It is better current pathology is considered in building second generation of new cities and we should find the reason why new cities could not reach to their goals. For example, in Hashtgerd new city, 500,000 people have been determined for its population, but it has absorbed only 30000 people so far. Also, Pardis new city has only about 60000 people from its determined horizon of 150000 people. The same situation is considered in other cities. The main reason for this is the weakness of economic fundamentals.

He continued: According to the authorities that recently announced, it is supposed to build 10 new cities in the country. But economically as long as targeting is not accurate for new cities, these projects would be welcomed by the people.

It is worth mentioning that directing capital towards creating new cities will be the possible only when the accumulation of capital is economical.
